01
Why did you choose your opening shot for each video?
For the Instagram Reel, I chose this as the opening shot because Instagram audiences tend to engage more with atmosphere and visual storytelling. Rather than immediately revealing the entire villa, I wanted to introduce the experience first. This composition places the guest within the environment, allowing viewers to imagine themselves in the space while gradually discovering the property.
From an editing perspective, I also considered the characteristics of the available footage. Since the visual coverage was relatively restrained, I focused on selecting the frame with the strongest composition and clearest focal point. The doorway naturally frames the subject, while the surrounding greenery adds depth and context without overwhelming the viewer. For Instagram, where users are generally more receptive to slower pacing and aspirational lifestyle content, this creates a stronger emotional introduction before transitioning into the rest of the villa.
For TikTok, I intentionally used a faster opening. Instead of beginning with a single establishing shot, I opened with a rapid sequence of still frames paired with a camera shutter sound effect. TikTok users make viewing decisions much more quickly, so the edit needs to capture attention within the first second. The quick-cut montage creates immediate visual energy before settling into the villa tour, whereas the Instagram version is designed to build curiosity through atmosphere and a more gradual reveal.
02
What was the biggest difference between your Instagram Reel and TikTok edit?
The biggest difference was the pacing and the way each edit was designed to match audience behavior on the respective platform. For Instagram, I took a slower, more immersive approach, using ambient music, natural sound effects, and longer shot durations to emphasize the atmosphere and experience of staying at the villa. The goal was to create a sense of calm and aspiration, allowing viewers to appreciate the space and its details.
For TikTok, I adopted a much faster editing style with quicker cuts, a stronger opening hook, and a more dynamic rhythm to capture attention within the first few seconds. The edit was designed to maintain momentum throughout, which aligns better with how TikTok users typically consume short-form content.
While the available footage offered a relatively focused range of shots, I adapted the pacing and structure of each edit to suit the strengths of each platform. Rather than applying the same edit twice, I treated Instagram and TikTok as two different storytelling environments, each requiring a different editorial approach.
03
How did you approach pacing differently for each platform?
My pacing approach was tailored to how audiences typically engage with each platform. For Instagram, I allowed each shot to stay on screen slightly longer, giving viewers enough time to appreciate the villa's atmosphere, architecture, and surrounding environment. The pacing is intentionally more measured, supported by ambient music and natural sound effects to create a calm and immersive viewing experience.
For TikTok, I shortened the duration of each shot and introduced visual changes more frequently to create a stronger sense of momentum. I also opened with a quick sequence of still frames paired with a camera shutter sound effect to capture attention immediately before moving into the main edit.
Although both versions rely primarily on hard cuts, the difference in pacing comes from the timing of each cut, the sequence of the shots, and the use of audio. Rather than relying on transition effects, I wanted the rhythm of the edit itself to guide the viewer's attention while adapting to the viewing habits of each platform.
04
What emotion or reaction did you want viewers to experience?
The emotional objective remained the same across both platforms—to make viewers imagine themselves staying at the villa—but the way I approached it was different.
For Instagram, I wanted viewers to feel relaxed and immersed in the atmosphere, so the edit unfolds at a more measured pace, allowing the environment to breathe.
For TikTok, the first emotion I aimed for was curiosity. The quicker opening is designed to capture attention immediately, then transitions into the same feeling of escape and relaxation once the viewer is engaged.
05
Which clip did you deliberately leave out, and why?
I deliberately left out one of the longer walkthrough clips. While it provided a continuous view of the space, I felt it slowed the pace without adding new information or strengthening the narrative.
Instead, I chose to communicate the villa through a curated sequence of shorter shots that highlighted specific moments and details. This approach allowed me to create a stronger sense of rhythm while maintaining the viewer's attention, which I felt was more effective for short-form content on both Instagram and TikTok.
My decision wasn't about excluding the footage itself, but about selecting the material that best supported the viewing experience and the overall story I wanted to tell.
06
If your objective changed from awareness to driving direct bookings, what would you change about your edits?
If the objective shifted from awareness to driving direct bookings, I would make the edit more conversion-focused by prioritizing information that helps viewers make a booking decision. While maintaining an engaging visual style, I would introduce key selling points earlier in the video, such as the villa's standout amenities, room highlights, location, or unique experiences, so viewers quickly understand the value being offered.
I would also include clearer on-screen messaging and a stronger call-to-action toward the end, such as encouraging viewers to visit the website or book directly. The pacing would remain engaging, but the edit would place greater emphasis on clarity and decision-making rather than simply creating atmosphere.
Ultimately, the editing strategy should support the campaign objective. For awareness, the priority is capturing attention and building interest. For direct bookings, the priority is giving viewers enough confidence and motivation to take the next step.
